The Kia Xceed and Ceed Tourer receive the plug-in hybrid engine

Kia intensifies its sustainable commitment with the arrival of new electrified models. This time it is the plug-in hybrid variant of the Xceed and Ceed Tourer models, which is the premiere of this technology in the strategic range of compact family vehicles of the Korean firm.

The Kia XCeed and Ceed Tourer Pluggable Hybrids feature a new kinematic chain that combines an 8.9 kWh lithium polymer battery, a 44.5 kW electric motor and a 1.6-liter GDI four-cylinder Kappa gasoline engine. Together they offer 141 hp of power and 265 Nm of torque, which ensures high performance.

The propulsion system is associated with a six-speed automatic transmission with double clutch (6DCT). This allows a more energetic driving than other hybrid vehicles equipped with electronic transmissions of continuous variation, since the e-CVT converts a part of the power of the combustion engine through the electric motor, which causes a loss of power due to the conversion of energy. The Kia 6DCT shift differs by allowing all power, that of the combustion engine and that of the electric, to be transferred in parallel through the transmission with a minimum loss of energy.

But besides being powerful, the Kia XCeed and Ceed Tourer Pluggable Hybrids are tremendously efficient. Regenerative braking technology allows you to take advantage of kinetic energy and recharge your batteries in braking and retention, which further improves the overall efficiency of the system, which allows you to travel around 60 kilometers in 100% electric driving, and therefore free of polluting emissions . The CO2 emissions of the new plug-in hybrid variants are pending approval and will be announced before the start of their commercialization.
Design of the Kia XCeed and Ceed Tourer plug-in hybrids

Both models were designed from the beginning to accommodate this plug-in hybrid propulsion, which has allowed to keep the dimensions and design practically identical to the models with combustion engine. The battery This 8.9 kWh battery is located next to the 37-liter fuel tank and under the rear seat bench, unlike other similar vehicles in which the battery is housed in the trunk, subtracting cargo space . In its plug-in hybrid version, the Ceed Tourer offers 437 liters and up to 1,506 with the three sections of rear seats folded down. As regards the Pluggable Hybrid XCeed, the trunk is 291 liters and increases to 1,243 l with the seat folded down. Under the trunk of each vehicle there is a space to store the charging cable. When they launch on the market at the beginning of next year, both models will be available with an optional trailer package for trailers with brakes, something unusual among hybrid models.

Both externally and internally, both models have elements that distinguish them from other models in the range. They feature a new “tiger-nose” closed grill on the front that improves aerodynamic efficiency, they have exterior “eco plug-in” badges and you can see the charging socket integrated in the left front flap.

Inside, they offer new features to make it easier for owners to squeeze the new propulsion system to the fullest. Both are equipped with an electric charge indicator on the top of the dashboard. The instrumentation also offers specific images of the plug-in hybrid system: the remaining charge level, the estimation of autonomy in electric mode and the flow of energy between the battery, the thermal engine and the electric motor.

Both models offer the infotainment system with 8.0-inch touch screen, or an optional navigation and infotainment system with 10.25-inch touch screen. These systems incorporate new functions, exclusive to the new plug-in hybrid variants, to locate the available charging points in their vicinity or on the route to their destination. The screens can also display relevant information related to the kinematic chain, such as the level of remaining battery charge or the graphics of power consumption. In addition, customers can use the touch screen system to schedule when the vehicle should start charging if it is plugged in, allowing you to take advantage of cheaper energy rates outside of peak hours. Both information and entertainment systems offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, while the optional 10.25-inch touchscreen navigation system includes a multiple Bluetooth connection, with which two devices can be connected simultaneously.
